About Pilates at Core Connect Pilates
Pilates is a body conditioning method that trains strength from the inside out. It targets the deep postural muscles, improves alignment, and helps rebalance the body so you move with more control and less strain. Over time, Pilates can improve the way your body looks and feels, while also supporting posture, mobility, and long-term joint health.
At Core Connect, Pilates is taught as a practical, progressive system you can build into daily life, helping you breathe, align and strengthen with consistency.
Why Equipment-Based Pilates (Reformer)
Equipment-based Pilates uses specialist apparatus and spring resistance to both assist and challenge your movement. That means exercises can be modified for beginners, progressed for experienced clients, and tailored for specific needs.
Reformer and equipment work can help you:
build core stability to support the spine
improve strength, stamina, flexibility and balance in one structured session
lengthen tight muscles with spring support (particularly useful around hips and hamstrings)
retrain movement patterns to become safer and more efficient for sport, posture, injury recovery and everyday life
Core Connect keeps classes small (maximum 7) so you receive quality instruction and individual attention.
Back Care and Rehabilitation Pilates
Pilates for Back Care
Lower back pain is common, and the studio positions Pilates as a supportive approach for improving core stability and spinal support. Sessions focus on stabilising the spine, improving control, and reducing tension from tight muscle groups that can pull on the lower back.
Rehabilitation and Recovery Support
The studio also highlights working with clients around hip and knee replacements, including building strength around the joint, addressing movement patterns, and supporting pain relief before or after surgery where appropriate.
The Polestar Approach
Core Connect includes Polestar as a key underpinning of its teaching approach. Polestar is described as science-based and whole-person focused, with an emphasis on intelligent movement, wellness, and healing through movement.
A simple way to say why that matters for clients is:
Polestar-trained instructors are taught to assess the whole person and apply precise, evidence-informed teaching rather than a one-size-fits-all workout.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is equipment-based Pilates suitable for beginners?
Yes. Spring resistance can assist movement, making it easier to learn technique safely, while still giving you a challenging workout as you progress.
What is the difference between matt and Reformer Pilates?
Our equipment-based approach enhances the Pilates experience through guided resistance and refined feedback, allowing the body to move with greater intelligence, strength, and ease.
Mat Pilates remains an essential and accessible foundation, beautifully complemented by the depth and support of equipment work
How many people are in a reformer session?
We have 7 reformer stations, and our Reformer sessions are kept small to ensure personalised attention, with a limited number of clients per class so instructors can guide technique, offer modifications and support your progress safely and effectively.
Is an instructor always present?
Yes. Every Reformer session is fully supervised by a qualified instructor who provides guidance, adjustments and encouragement throughout the class to ensure safe, effective and enjoyable movement.
Do I need experience to start?
No. Our equipment-based Pilates sessions are suitable for all levels. Instructors tailor exercises to suit your ability and goals, whether you’re new to Pilates or returning after a break.
Can Pilates help with back pain or rehabilitation?
Yes. Pilates can improve core stability, support posture and reduce muscular tension – all of which can help relieve back discomfort and assist in recovery. We also work with clients before and after surgeries like hip or knee replacement to support strength and movement quality.
How long are the classes?
All of our group equipment sessions are 55 minutes long.
