As Joseph Pilates said:

“Physical fitness can neither be achieved by wishful thinking or outright purchase”

It does take commitment and dedication to achieve this and we hope by you choosing us we can help you achieve your goals and help you feel spritely again! We recommend a minimum of two classes a week to achieve this.

At our Surbiton Pilates studio, we believe in offering quality instruction with a maximum of 7 people per class. Giving you the best attention so you can understand the Pilates technique, gaining the most from your workout.

Our expert instructors are qualified, friendly and approachable providing you with a more personable experience. Our premium Pilates equipment is from Balanced body. Using the equipment through the assistant and resistant of the springs allows for modifications of the exercises for a range of abilities from beginners to advanced. You can learn how to re-train your body to move safer, more efficient patterns of motion – invaluable for injury recovery, sports performance, good posture and optimal health.

Pilates For Back Care

“Back pain creates more debility than any other condition”! This information was taken from the NHS website in March 2014.

Lower back pain causes more debility than any other condition, affecting nearly 1 in 10 people and becoming more common with increasing age.

We specialize in back care, helping you become pain free and start enjoying life again. Our classes are designed to help improve core stability and to help stabilize your spine. Tight muscles can also put tension on the spine like the hip flexor and hamstrings, the Reformer is great to help lengthen these muscles with the springs giving support.

Rehabilitation & Pilates

Working with clients with hip and knee replacements is becoming more popular within our studio. For some clients it’s more about prolonging the inevitable and helping them with pain relief, strengthen weaken muscles around the hip and knee before surgery.

Our expert instructors are qualified, friendly and approachable providing you with a personal experience. Our premium Pilate’s equipment is from balanced body. Using the equipment through the assisting and resisting springs allows for modifications of the exercises for a range of abilities from beginners to advanced.

You can learn how to re-train your body to move safer and create efficient patterns of motion which are valuable for injury prevention/recovery, sports performance, good posture and optimal health.

From Hugh Jervis, 10th March 2013

I am writing to compliment you on your efforts to deal with the arthritis issue with my right knee over the last 15 months since Dec  2011 . During this period I have attended most of your weekly rehabilitation classes together with  a course of 15 individual sessions in Autumn 2012 in addition to some initial individual consultations in early 2012.

When I first came to your classes I had extreme difficulty in walking and subsequently I have been diagnosed as requiring a knee replacement when I am 65 .( now aged 60)

During these sessions you have been diligent in addressing some of the root causes of my difficulties in walking from spine positioning through to gait patterning and your observations and exercises have been helpful in reducing pain without the use of drugs . Additionally the general Pilates rehabilitation classes have contributed to personal fitness and core strength to the extent  that my dinghy sailing has improved somewhat as a result .

I would like to take this  last opportunity to wish you every success with your venture at the Nuffield Surbiton as I am now moving out of the area.

Very best wishes for the future

Hugh

The Benefits of Polestar Pilates

Pilates is a body conditioning method that works in a different way to other fitness techniques. Targeting the deep postural muscles, Pilates works by building strength from the inside out, rebalancing the body and bringing it into correct alignment. It helps to reshape your body, which will become longer, leaner and more toned. It will also improve your posture, achieving the perfect balance between strength and flexibility, and it is a great way to relive unwanted stress and tension. It’s slow, controlled approach means that it gives much longer-term results – and it is especially recommended by medical specialists for those with back problems.

In a nutshell Pilates Changes the way in which we use our bodies. It changes muscle recruitment patterns, correcting common muscle imbalances, restoring good alignment and natural normal movement.
